How To Prevent Debris Accumulating In Your Gutters

There's no one way for you to prevent small debris build-up, but there are ways you can slow down the build-up! There is nothing good that comes out of clogged gutters, so let's help you prevent that! Here are four ways you can deter the build-up of debris in YOUR gutters!

  1. Gutter Guards

Gutter Guards can be bought at places like Home Depot and Lowe's. They come in many different types of materials, such as Aluminum, Metal, and Plastic. Depending on your budget and what you're looking for, all 3 types of material can be great options. This the the best way to keep leaves and other large objects out of your gutter but is the most expensive.

  2. Trim Branches That Hang Over Your House

If you live by trees, you know all too well the fall season means gutter cleaning season. Trimming the branches that overhang your house would be a good idea if you're looking for fewer leaves. Leaves will fall on top of the roof and get blown or pushed into the gutters, causing a backup. Once the trees are trimmed over your house, leaves will not have a direct path to the gutters like before.

  1. Regular Gutter Cleaning

This will not prevent debris from entering your gutter but won't allow for it to build up in your gutters. Many people in Ohio will get their gutters cleaned twice, once in the spring & the fall) although you could get away with it once a year. This will prevent you from any damage to your foundation/house from a clogged gutter and water accumulation. Many companies would love to help get you on a yearly plan for it.

  2. Foam Inserts

Foam inserts are made of a sponge-like material that will soak up the water and safely transport it to the downspout. These are a bit of a cheaper option than going with a gutter guard. They do tend to deteriorate a bit faster than a gutter guard would but are still a great bang for your buck.
